Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that the people of the country have entrusted the government with the responsibility of protecting their interests. It was with this sense of responsibility that he gave utmost importance to Bangladesh’s national interests during his visits to Malaysia and China.

The Prime Minister, as Leader of the House, made these remarks on Saturday (June 27) on the 16th working day of the second session (budget session) of the 13th National Parliament, as the motion of thanks moved for the success of his recent visits to Malaysia and China was unanimously adopted.

He said, “The responsibility that the people of Bangladesh have entrusted upon us is to protect their interests. During my visits to Malaysia and China, I discussed the interests of the country and its people and tried to safeguard those interests.”

The Prime Minister further added, “There is no question of personal achievement here. If any positive outcome has been achieved through these visits, it is an achievement for Bangladesh and its people.”

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram presided over the parliamentary session, which began at 11 AM. From June 21 to 26, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman completed his six-day official visits to Malaysia and China, which marked his first state tours.

On behalf of the Jatiya Sangsad, the Prime Minister was congratulated and thanked for successfully completing the visits. In response, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Members of Parliament.

At this time, the Prime Minister also thanked all members of Parliament, especially the Leader of the Opposition. He said, “I also thank the Leader of the Opposition. He too has encouraged us to work for the welfare of the people of the country.”

Earlier, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir moved the motion of thanks. The proposal was later adopted by voice vote after detailed discussion in Parliament.

Participating in the discussion on the proposal, both government and opposition MPs described the visits as a groundbreaking event in Bangladesh’s foreign policy and economic diplomacy.
