Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that the government will take initiatives for the release of Bangladeshi expatriates imprisoned in Malaysia for various reasons. He stated that approximately two thousand Bangladeshis are incarcerated in the country on various charges, and the government will endeavor to take necessary steps for their release.

He made these remarks while addressing a gathering of dignitaries at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, on Sunday night (June 21).

The Prime Minister stated that a large number of Bangladeshi workers are employed in Malaysia. To prevent unskilled workers from going abroad in the future, the country’s vocational and technical education institutions will be made more effective. Concurrently, initiatives will be taken to further expand the labor market through discussions with Malaysia.

He informed that there are plans to arrange basic Arabic language training for workers going to the Middle East for employment within the next year. This will facilitate their work and communication abroad.

The Head of Government also spoke about the development of education and future generations. He stated that an environment would be ensured for children to grow up while maintaining their individuality. There are plans to include five sports in the school curriculum, where students’ participation and skills will be evaluated.

Tarique Rahman further added that the country’s future generations must be equipped to thrive in a competitive world. To this end, there are plans to teach students five languages, with special emphasis on English.

Addressing the expatriates, he said that the government would strive to secure as many benefits for them as possible within the bounds of the law. Highlighting the immense potential before Bangladesh, he emphasized patience, hard work, and long-term planning.

Touching upon personal matters, the Prime Minister stated, “I do not seek revenge for what happened to my family. We must move forward step by step with patience.”
